SRK IPL BID WINNERS

The ‘Badshah’ says no one should have objections if he goes to watch a match now.
Vintage Shahrukh was at his best as he took a potshot at the Indian cricket board yesterday, when it became apparent that Khan was still smarting from his run-in with the BCCI a few months ago when the board had implied that Shahrukh’s attendance at cricket matches including the T20 final was a rather clever attempt to promote his film ‘Om Shanti Om’
A furious Shahrukh had at that time anounced that he knew where he wasn’t welcome.
“I would like all those who play cricket or football or hockey to not watch my films. I do not like it. This is a spectator sport - I think I was invited by the BCCI itself and I was very happy I went - but now I am a little sad,” SRK had reacted on November 21, 2007.
But now, the proud owner of the Kolkata IPL team seems to be getting his come uppance and is enjoying every second of it.
“The one thing I hope that does not happen is that people think I am watching a cricket match to promote my film. I will be supporting my team,” said SRK on Thursday evening to the press.
The Badshah of Bollywood certainly has a way with words, and if he has his way cricket, is all set to get a lot more entertaining whether the BCCI likes it or not

KOLKATA IPL TEAM

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the winning bids for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Private Limited bagged the Kolkata team in the IPL, Vijay Mallya won the Bangalore team and Mukesh Ambani got the Mumbai team for BCCI's Twenty20 tournament.
Another Bollywood star Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia have got the Mohali/Chandigarh while Delhi has gone to the GMR group.
Hyderabad team has gone to Deccan Chronicle while Jaipur and Chennai have gone to Emerging Media and India Cement respectively.
Mallya bid $111.6 million for the Bangalore team.

"I was the under bidder for Mumbai at $111.6. I won Bangalore at that amount," Mallya said.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Shah Rukh, whose movie Chak De India on Indian women hockey team was a runaway hit, said, "The idea is not how much money is involved, it's about owning a big city team and promoting sports. No question of brand building involved in it. I bid for four places, including Delhi. The idea was to own a big city team.”
“The idea is to provide a platform to the young sportstars to perform. We all want to nurture the talent in the team,” Shah Rukh said.
On being asked what will the name of his team, he said, “I may call the team Shah Rukh XI.”
“I adore Sourav Ganguly and I hope he will lead the team. I will have experts to work out the modalities in the next 30 days. We will try to create a team that has a good winning combination. I will get experts to explain to us how the best combination can be done. I will not be a selector for the team,” he said.

SRK WON IPL KOLKATA

Mumbai: Seeking to cash in on the cricket craze in India, corporate bigwigs, including Mukesh Ambani and Vijay Mallya, and celluloid stars Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta on Thursday won sponsorship for high-profile teams for the upcoming Indian Premier League.

In the process, IPL is richer by a whopping about Rs 3,000 crore or $724 million even before it launches its Twenty20 tournament in April that would feature the most prominent cricket stars across the globe, including Aussie captain Ricky Ponting and India's M S Dhoni.

India's wealthiest corporate house Reliance Industries' promoter Mukesh Ambani was the top bidder with an offering of $111.9 million, or over Rs440 crore, to bag the Mumbai team defeating, liquor giant Vijay Mallya, who won the Bangalore team for just three lakh dollars less.

The other winners were: Shah Rukh Khan (Kolkata), Preity Zinta (Chandigarh), Emerging Media (Jaipur), Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad), India Cements (Chennai) and GMR Group (Delhi).

Preity Zinta put in her bid in association with friend Nes Wadia of the Bombay Dyeing group, while Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta joined the Shah Rukh-led consortium.

However, India's leading private sector lender ICICI Bank, retail giant Future Group and Sahara group, the current sponsor of the Indian cricket team, failed to get a pie of the tournament that is being structured on a corporate pattern.

Announcing the details of winners for the eight team whose sponsorship was up for grabs, BCCI Vice-President Lalit Modi, credited for bringing in unheard of riches for BCCI, said, "It was a great success. There were 11 eligible bidders for eight of the 12 cities. There were more than one bid for each city and Mukesh Ambani's successful bid of $111.9 million for Mumbai region was the highest."

The eight successful bids, for a period of 10 years, have enriched the BCCI's already swelling coffers and, added to its share of the media rights sold for $1.026 billion, it would fetch the Board $100 million annually, according to BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah.

The distinction is given to persons who have established themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of the arts in France [Images] and throughout the world, Bendjebbour said.

French Ambassador in India Jerome Bonnafont will confer the title on Khan at the inaugural ceremony of four-day French film festival -- First rendezvous with French cinema here in Mumbai on January 27.

The Cultural Service of the French Embassy in India is organising the festival, in association with UniFrance, an organisation committed to promoting French cinema across the world.

"Indian cinema and the audience both have matured a lot in last couple of years. This change has coincided with the multiplex boom in India. We thought the time is ripe to tap its potential," said Philippe Martinet, Cultural Counsellor to the French Embassy in India, adding "we also want filmmakers to use France as the backdrop for their movies."

Among the seven films to be screened, would be Roman de Gare (Crossed Tracks), directed by the Academy and Palm d'or awardee, Claude Lelouch.

Other films are La Science Des Reves (The Science of Sleep), and the world premiere of Asterix at the Olympics [Images] amongst others. All these films to be showed in the festival would be released in India. Major companies like Polydor and Shemaroo have bagged the title rights for India release.

"We've spent some time conducting non-commercial screenings of French movies in multiplexes across the country and have received a good response," said Martinet.

Aditya Chopra Recruiting Shah Rukh, Hrithik, Rani & Preity

Following the poor showing of the films produced under his banner in 2007 producer Aditya Chopra is pulling out all stops and rolling up his sleeves to direct his own film starring. Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in lead roles.
Last year, other than Chak De! India, other films from Aditya Chopra Productions - Ta Ra Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle all bit the dust at the box office, seriously denting the reputation of a banner once reputed to have the Midas touch.
Aditya Chopra has in the past directed two films both runaway hits - Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Mohabbatein (2000).
Since he built his formidable reputation directing romantic films, Aditya is sticking with the genre but his new film will be laced with action and humor.
Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta, both banner favorites, are expected to be part of the project which will be shot in Greece Australia and Dubai, reports HT.
Chopra who is currently readying the final draft of the film hopes to start pre-production work in March so as to start wielding the megaphone by June - July.
Both Shah Rukh and Hrithik have plenty of free dates on their calendar as do Rani and Preity.

UTV' s entertainment channel for the youth Bindass had its first concert called the 'Airtel Bindaas India' concert yesterday at the MMRDA grounds in Mumbai and the top draw at the event was none other than the presence of the Baadshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan.
The concert gave the die-hard SRK fans an opportunity to interact and get up, close and personal with their favorite matinee idol. The show hosted by Sajid Khan had opening acts by Rakhi Sawant, Mouli Dave, Neeti Mohan, and Kunal Ganjawala, enthralling the audiences. However, the temperature actually started soaring when actors like Dia Mirza, Dino Morea, and Priyanka Chopra took centre-stage dancing to some of their popular tracks. But the frenzy reached its maximum when King Khan made an entry. The stylish look, the well-toned physique, and his much-loved dimpled smile sent the crowds in a tizzy. Shah Rukh kept his act interactive for most part. He first called on two winners of the 'Dance with SRK' contest and gave tips on how to woo a girl even as his chartbuster 'Aankhon Mein Teri' from OSO played in the background. Next up was a performance on Don with SRK teaching yet another winner some mean tricks. Last but not the least a young girl from Jaipur had an unforgettable time as King Khan flirted around with her while swaying to the tunes of Pretty Woman from Kal Ho Na Ho.As it was time to say Good-bye the winners were given gifts like a certificate, a copy of Shah Rukh's biography SRK- Still Reading Khan and a large size cut out of the star which he himself autographed.Even as the show ended, people were waiting near the VVIP car-park to get one last look at their favorite superstar. One thing is for sure when it comes to super-stardom and mass fan following there is no one to beat Shah Rukh Khan.[Indiafm.com]
